Lot people around here go to Arizona or Florida in the winter. We tried it a couple of times but it wasn’t our cup of tea. I don’t believe that a pleasant climate actually make people any happier. Nice weather is a convienence and eliminates some irritations, but it is like having alot of money, it merely makes some aspects of life a little easier. It doesn’t make you “happy.”

Living in this climate I am of course attentive to weather– especially weather extremes. The coldest I’ve ever been in is -49 degrees. Everyone the next day said it was -50, but I stick by what I read on my thermometer. Anyway, in that Jack London story “Call of the Wild,” it was said that spittle will freeze before it hits the ground at these temps. Funny, I never tried it. I can’t remember what the actual temperature was that London was talking about.

I not only farm 4,000 acres but I have read over 4,000 books. It’s tradition in my family, I guess. My uncle would get teased for stopping his tractor at the end of field and sit against the tire and read a book for an hour. The neighbors thought he was shiftless but he out produced the all when it came to wealth creation.
